How do I participate in IWSLT?

You can participate in several ways:

  • Submit a scientific paper through our submission portal or commitment with ARR reviews.
  • Take part in a shared task, join one of the Shared Tasks and submit a system description paper describing your approach. Shared tasks are announced in January and submission takes place in March/April.
  • Organize a shared task by submitting a shared task proposal to the IWSLT program committee (deadline is typically in September).
  • Attend the conference, held yearly alongside ACL.

Is there a fee to participate in a task?

No, participation is free.

How do I stay updated on IWSLT news and deadlines?

Check the News page on this website, join the IWSLT Evaluation Campaign google group, and follow IWSLT on LinkedIn.

How can I join a shared task?

Shared tasks are listed on the website and announced every year (in January). Each task page contains its own instructions for participation.

What does “evaluation period” mean?

The evaluation period is the time window that begins when task organizers release evaluation conditions and data to participants, and system outputs will be due before the end of the evaluation period.

While most task follow the same timeline, individual tasks may set their own deadlines within this period.

Do I need to write a paper?

All teams competing in a task are encouraged, but not required, to write a paper describing their system(s) and what was learned in the task. Even if a system did not achieve a high score in the competition, the description may be able to offer insights to the scientific community.

Is there a fee to submit a paper/attend the workshop?

There is no fee to submit a paper or have it published in the proceedings. However, ACL requires workshop papers to be covered by a registration of one of the authors. For more information regarding the registration procedure, please refer to the ACL website.

How do I become a member of SIGSLT?

SIGSLT membership is open to anyone interested in spoken language translation. Subscribe to the SIGSLT google group to join — see the SIGSLT page for more information.

Where can I find papers and results from previous editions?

Visit the Past Editions section of the History page for links to previous conferences, programs, and shared task results. Papers are publicly available in the ACL Anthology.
